Learning Curve
Enjoying things so far? I am.
I’ve told some folks about this show and I’ve been very specific with some instructions. If you listen and you hear something alarmingly inaccurate, please let me know. However if there are technical issues, or you don’t like my personality or think the format is too open-ended, I don’t want to hear about it. Because this is something I want to do and if I get bogged down with those details this early in the process, I will just stop. And I don’t want to stop.
I learn by doing. Odds are pretty good that as I’m editing and listening back to these episodes I’ll figure out how to make them better. It’s in my nature to learn through screwing things up a lot. Then I eventually get them worked out. I have to keep moving or risk losing steam. So if you’re finding the first few episodes unbearable, hang with me awhile. I’m sure things will improve.
That’s why you’ll notice inconsistencies in the audio quality in the first few episodes. Because just the first episode took me six weeks to finish. In that time I recorded two more interviews, created music and graphics, set up a domain and email, built a website, tested mics and recording software, recorded, edited, re-edited with better audio adjustments, lost half a show due to poor software/hardware compatibility (sorry about that Ryan, we’ll try again soon) put together intro and outro, set up RSS feed got the show submitted to iTunes and eventually accepted and posted. And here I am a month and a half later writing a post featuring a gif from Christmas Vacation. My how time flies.
Honestly, If every show took that long, I’d never have time to get any actual work done and I’d probably quit. But I can’t do that. Things are running much smoother now. Getting better audio levels/quality and better processes for recording and editing. And Ryan’s drinks have never been better. So raise your glass and toast with me because I’m looking at a bright future here at the Old Bastard Martini Lounge.
Oh, one final note, the quality of my guests isn’t getting any better, so if that’s what you dislike the most, I can’t help. These poor bastards are the only ones that will talk to me.
